Contemporary Art - Intro Cotton Book

Teenage Preoccupation by David Stewart

One thing I appreciate about contemporary art is that it is all about the artist and their intent. Contemporary art focuses more on the artist and their lives than the art itself. It really focuses heavily on the "why" it was it created. I personally like this because it gives us more of a look into who the artist is as a person and what they are about. The photo is not only focused on being "aesthetically pleasing" but incorporates meaning as well and is as important as making it look appealing.

This photo by David Stewart is a project about teenage careers and the paths we take as young adults. It is in the style of "deadpan". They are observations from his everyday life. He specifically chose people who looked like they were "lost" and not sure of where they wanted their life to go. This again, focuses on the subjects themselves, their lives, and the idea or reasoning behind the work/piece.

One thing I learned is that contemporary art is not the inclusion of all kinds of art, but the meaning behind the pieces themselves.
